London town

So I'm in old London town at the moment visiting a friend and I'm hoping the weather will stick but I think it's a little wishful thinking on my part. In the meantime I think I will enjoy a bit of Buckingham Palace and a little stroll through the park.

Homemade pizza

We've been eating alot of take-aways lately...like I mean, four days a week because, well because somehow the time is really running away from us. During the week the time really flies but ok maybe I need to work on my time management skills. Today we decided to meet halfway, between eating junk and healthy food - we decided to make our own pizza. Both of us never really made pizza dough before and we really didn't know how it would turn out but I had the local pizza place on speed dial just in case. The husband made the dough (recipe here) because he is the dough whisperer and I prepared the other bits and pieces, it turned out amazing! We made three pizzas out of it and froze the other three batches of dough.

Bergerstraßenfest 2011

Ontop of unpacking and getting some more things for the apartment (like a washing machine) we have also had a few guests come and stay over. This weekend a friend of the husband was driving through for work and stayed with us overnight. The boys wanted to watch a bit of soccer so we headed off towards Bergerstr. and found that there was a street festival on.

so far

Our apartment so far is looking like this. It looks quite neat doesn't it? well the other side of the room lies stacks and stacks of boxes still needing to be opened and our bedroom is a mess. We used our coffee table to hold our tv and dvd player so we are minus a table, hmm not sure what we will use for that but ok one problem at a time I suppose!

Moving day (Umzugstag)

The sign is up and the truck is coming. Finally we have more stuff to wear than what's in our suitcase! It's funny to see that the movers are more excited about us moving than ourselves. They were so fascinated by our stuff as well as the fact that the husband had lived somewhere outside of Germany, but moreso our furniture, especially the bed as it had no screws, only slots in place - we told them that it is the Indonesian Ikea - and they believed us. It was also funny seeing the husband interact with the movers, one had asked my husband something and the husband was not quite used to the Hessen dialect so his first reflex was to say "apa?" to them (which means "what?" in Indonesian) and they seemed to understood what he meant hah! We shouted the movers pizzas and cola for lunch for our appreciation with the moving, I mean, we have alot of wooden furniture, especially our antique bench with like 20 thin drawers and our teakwood dining table. They gave us some interior decorating tips with where to put our things and after the whole day, they left us to do the unpacking. This is going to be a long week.

Feeling homesick

This living between places is killing me. I don't have my things so it's rather difficult to be able to cook the things that you want to cook with a pan and a knife, but ok when most households in Jakarta have only that in their kitchens and they are cooking amazing things, I guess I can also. Today I was feeling a little homesick for Indonesia as it is still quite cold over here for summer so I made a chicken soup with prekedel (alot like the German frikadellen only with alot of potatoes instead of meat) and it turned out great. Homesick cured!

Ikea time

We received the keys already for our apartment yesterday but our stuff is still enroute from Indonesia so we decided that a necessary trip to Ikea was quite ideal today. We chose this fold out sofa in case we had visitors coming and took half the day to set it up. Well I tried helping with the first half but got bored and decided to be a fan and cheer the husband along while he did it himself. So, with the rug the parents-in-law gave us, our apartment is looking like this!
